The country is located in the northwest corner of South America, with territories in both hemispheres and coasts on the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Colombia has a wide biological, geographical, edaphical and ecosistemic complexity and diversity
Its biodiversity world rating is unique:
First in species by area (10% of the world biodiversity)
Second most bio diverse country in the World
First in birds and amphibians
Second with 55.000 plants species (30% endemic)
The country accounts for more than two thousand identified medicinal plants, a great number of fruits, tubers, palms, vegetables and wild and cultured local grains, which are all edible.
With an area of 1.141.748 Km2, forests cover 780.000 Km2 (ca. 68%), agricultural and cattle growing are used in 140.000 Km2 (ca. 12%) and 190.000 Km2 (ca. 17%) respectively.
